Transforming Marriage

So how can we transform a marriage? I've noticed that the Bible points to the New Covenant as the key to Covenant Marriage. One example is Ephesians 5:25: Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her. Jesus' death on the cross is the husband's inspiration, empowerment, and source of forgiveness -- all crucial elements to transforming marriage. How crucial is this concept to transforming marriage and why?

Pastor Rick has hit on a VERY important part of marriage here, and the concept is crucial to transforming marriage because the husband and wife need to understand that they are fulfilling roles designed by God.  Pastor correctly points out that Jesus is the husband's inspiration:  Husbands are to play the role of Christ in the marriage.  The wife is to play the role of the Church.  Husbands are to love and serve their wives following the example of Christ.  How humbling and challenging is that??!!  Wives are to lovingly and willfully submit to their husbands leadership.  This isn't about domination.  Both of these roles correctly played out show the world a beautiful testimony about Christ and His Church.

The scary thing about marriage is how do you know the other person will try to live up to the covenent after the marriage has taken place and not be a Jekyl and Hyde?  Even Christian marriages are failing and as a divorced person I know how bad things can get and it's scary to think about going back into something in case the person changes on you, especially when the hard times hit.  As much as I'd like to be married again, there are many things I don't have to worry about anymore by being on my own and mostly it's the lack of strife that is very appealing.

I understand your reticence. My prayer is that God will still lead you to "risk" love -- and to grow in that love toward others. I certainly see that in your life and praise God for it. (2 Thess. 1:3)
