What a great day yesterday! Thanks to all the volunteers who worked so hard to make it all come together. You created a great mailing and sent it out, practiced to lead us in worship, effectively ran the technical aspects, muscled all our stuff over to the high school auditorium and back, created a beautiful decore, set out a delicious breakfast and gave us time to be with one another, provided childcare so others could celebrate the resurrection and so much more! Easter was such a wonderful expression of the wonderful church body that you are, Shalom!
Gary Habernas captures the powerful hope that we have in the resurrection of our Lord. In 1995, Gary watched his wife slowly die of stomach cancer. Gary, who is an expert on the resurrection, reflected on Job's conversations with God in the midst of his suffering. He wrote,
I think God would respond (to me as He did to Job) by asking gently, "Gary, did I raise my son from the dead?" I'd say, "Come on, Lord, I've written seven books on the topic! Of course he was raised from the dead. But I want to know about Debbie! I think he'd keep coming back to the same question, "Did I raise my son from the dead?" until I got his point. The resurrection says that if Jesus was raised two thousand years ago, there's an answer to Debbie's death in 1995. . . . Losing my wife was the most painful experience I've ever had to face, but if the resurrection could get me through that, it can get me through anything."
Thankful for our powerful hope in Christ! Check out 1 Corinthians 15.
